Faruza

This semi-fairy-tale drama takes place on an isolated island where all girls over the age of twelve have to wear a metal mask. The daughter of a local fishermen, however, rejects this cruel rule and escapes to a neighboring island to find freedom. Through medieval Persian folk tales, this film opens up the topic of female emancipation. The animation adheres to the best of classic Czech puppet animation. (Zlín Film Festival)
