The Key (2020) (S06E05)

English The story is not moving forward in any significant way, it is currently in the phase of a quagmire of sorts. The Freydis doppelganger is interesting, we can enjoy that the writers can actually let their creative intellect loose at will. The vote for the king could also be a good supporting storyline for upcoming episodes. Hvitserk, however, deserves to die. ()

Death and the Serpent (2020) (S06E06)

English A clear return to the roots. It's as if the Vikings from season three came flying in. Although the finale is a bit predictable, it's still emotionally powerful and the concept fits together just fine. An excellent duel between Lagertha and a bandit and of course the vote for the King of Norway. Thoroughbred, thrilling and probably the best episode of the last series in a long time. If they cut it down to ten episodes, with every other as good as this one, fans would cheer. ()

The Ice Maiden (2020) (S06E07)

English A tribute piece to one of the best TV characters of all time. Well deserved, but perhaps too long and overly poetic. ()

Valhalla Can Wait (2020) (S06E08)

English Apart from Bjorn's rage and one blatant infidelity, this episode is actually pretty pointless. Like one of many. Moreover, the group is splitting up quite incomprehensibly. Basically, we're just waiting for Russia to show up. ()

Resurrection (2020) (S06E09)

English Forty minutes to wait for the final five, which kind of hints at the way the second half of the sixth season is likely to go, which, with the exception of one episode, is actually quite boring. ()

The Best Laid Plans (2020) (S06E10)

English The creators obviously want to explain a lot in the next ten episodes, because this narrative mess will hardly satisfy the fans of the series. Instead of a bloody carnage, we have a chronologically scattered almost battle again, where it's not clear whether it's the real deal or just someone's imagination. Thus, surrealistic dreamlike images collide with interesting panoramas like in Troy, but on the ground they lack both verve and better editing. ()

King of Kings (2020) (S06E11)

English A spectacular comeback that kick-started a severely flagging sixth season that lacked more charismatic figures and a proper stroke on goal. King of Kings is such an impressive reboot where one of the most iconic characters of the entire series goes down and does it very impressively. The pious wish of all fans of this epic series is that the last ten episodes will maintain at least partially the level of this episode. Hopefully they’ll manage. ()

All Change (2020) (S06E12)

English With a bit of exaggeration we can say that it's back to where it was in the first half of the sixth season. Rus looks strange, often illogical and disorganised. Ubbe in Iceland doesn't make much of a dent in the world either, and the events in Kattegat somewhat save the day. ()

The Signal (2020) (S06E13)

English Preparing for future upheavals. Nothing new, nothing revelatory, no really shocking or surprising moment. Harald is back, thanks goodness, at least there’ll be some comedy. ()

Lost Souls (2020) (S06E14)

English Ubbe and co. put on a solid survival drama while Harald and co. do intrigue and scheming in Kattegat. There is nothing that would somehow spice up the mediocre fifth and sixth episodes, where the same thing happens over and over again in different variations. ()

All at Sea (2020) (S06E15)

English A great scene in Greenland, raw, bloody and with great handheld camera – uncompromising survival mode. In addition, this time the Russian side of the game is also entertaining, with the highest trump cards being dealt as expected. Twists that perhaps should have been a little later in the series, or maybe in other places, are coming to us now, in the middle of the final season. ()

The Final Straw (2020) (S06E16)

English If it weren't for Harald's conversations with Ivar, it would actually be a pretty tired yawn, with only clouds of edited dialogue passages. ()

The Raft of Medusa (2020) (S06E17)

English The battle is OK, but it doesn't have the proper edge and sparse authenticity of the first episodes. It’s big and at times artificial and chatty. ()

It's Only Magic (2020) (S06E18)

English The Canadian survival adventure ala Robinson Crusoe and England vs Scandinavia is inexorably approaching its finale. It's hard to say how much it sticks to historical accuracy, but let's not throw in the towel, hopefully the ending of the saga will be worth it. ()

The Lord Giveth... (2020) (S06E19)

English Great battle and a small insignificant plus for King Harald and his mini-scene. Overseas, it's already quite tedious, and the otherwise solidly played game will be hard to move forward, let alone conclude, in the last two episodes. ()

The Last Act (2020) (S06E20)

English The last battle is weird, the situation in Kattegat is unintentionally self-parodic and the journey across the ocean is, let's say, decent and pleasantly melancholic. I expected something more epic and intense for the series finale. ()
