Plots(1)

Originally commissioned as a one-off short documentary, the first in Gillian Armstrong's series of films explores the lives, loves and longings of three Adelaide working-class teenage girls—Kerry, Josie and Diana—as they navigate the path to adulthood. A colonial cousin to Michael Apted's Up series, Smokes and Lollies offers a candid look at growing up female in 1970s Australia—blue eye shadow, annoying parents, boy crushes and all.
