From creators Steven Zaillian and Richard Price, THE NIGHT OF is an eight-part limited series that delves into the intricacies of a fictitious murder case in New York City. The story follows Naz Khan, an adorably nerdy student who gets invited to a party in New York's Lower East Side by a basketball player he tutors. When his ride falls through at the last minute, Naz takes his father's cab without asking and drives from his home in Jackson Heights, Queens, into Manhattan. A beautiful young woman gets into the cab and asks for a ride, derailing his plans and beginning the fateful evening of the title. Naz is later accused of a crime he says he didn't commit, and he experiences the disorganization and manipulation of the legal system from the inside. His plight is further influenced by his appearance and status as the son of Pakistani immigrants. PART 1: A Pakistani-American college student seeks legal representation after being implicated in a NYC murder. (HBO Europe)

The Night Of (2016)

English HBO gave the world another great TV show. A show that offers the interesting story of a guy whose world went topsy-turvy overnight. But he was lucky enough that he met a bunch of people who want to put the effort in and do something about his life. And these people put in absolutely perfect acting performances, including the guy. You see, Riz Ahmed presents a model change of his character from a humble and shy Pakistani boy into a tough convict who is not scared even of the toughest black guy. But John Turturro portrays an excellent character as well, who was doing a great job in the main plotline, but I also liked his sad secondary plotline involving the sad and unfortunate chick. And the show offers similar complex plotlines including the police investigator, the promising lawyer and also the other lawyer who is the public prosecutor. You see this show will get everybody with its honesty, ordinariness, incredible realism, humanity and mainly it asks the question what is the value of life and how little is needed for each and every personto start seeing it completely differently that they have in their life so far. An amazing show, and although it is a court-room drama, I wasn’t bored for even a minute. ()
