I don’t think the problem with this film is the competence of the director (the film is quite skilfully made), but rather the utter pointlessness of it as a whole. The first one was a straightforward horror snack that certainly didn’t need a sequel. This one stretches things brutally and it can be seen.

The Pact 2 is a film that doesn't even deserve to be a sequel because although it could work as a standalone, there's really no significant continuity here. The main focus is on the mystery. There's a killer, but it's not filmed like a classic slasher, and dark supernatural elements are trying to enliven the film. Surprisingly, they're not even close.
