Plots(1)

A film comprising excerpts from the Czech detective film The Murderer Hides His Face (Petr Schulhoff, 1966), all modified in a post production studio. Here Major Kalaš encounters the surreal setting of a Czech village surrounded by oil pumps and a forest created from rolls of film. The original story is deconstructed, moving backwards to its very beginning. The film ends with its main characters symbolically disappearing into a black “box” in a reference to the world’s first film production studio constructed in Edison’s laboratories in 1892, known as the Black Maria.
