Catherine Hardwicke is constantly trying to prove to us that at almost 60 years old, she is capable of directing films about young people, regardless of whether it is a drama, fairytale, vampire romance, or a thriller. She wants her films to look sexy, tough, daring, and youthful. Emily Browning once again looks like a doll, completely artificial. Hardwicke believes she sees into the souls of the young, but in reality, she doesn't know what she wants to tell. Is it a reflection of the present time or just a pseudo-stylized thriller? A beautiful example of modern kitsch that pretends to have morality but doesn't know what morality is. She wants to show decline, yet she herself is such. She wants to show hope, but screws it onto a silly plot. (01/07/2014)
