A portrait of the famous Polish sculptor Xawery Dunikowski (1875-1964). He is the greatest representative of modern monumental sculpture in Poland. In one of his early films, Andrzej Wajda combines a realistic reportage about the artist's studio - the first part of the film - with a poetic staging of a number of statues entitled 'Pregnant Women' against the background of a marine landscape. This film exemplifies a subjective viewpoint taken by the filmmaker towards his subject. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
