Bosch (2014)

English I have rated all seven seasons highly, which is certainly not a coincidence. It is also not a coincidence that I enjoyed a series based on my favorite author's books. I am sure that if the creators had not strayed too far from the source material, my overall rating would be five stars. However, they embarked on a path of frequent innovations, many of which led to a storyline that did not captivate me, so it didn't quite reach the highest rating. Nevertheless, I acknowledge that it was by no means a waste of time, that I was delighted, and I will immediately start watching Legacy. / Lesson learned: Michael Connelly knows what he's doing and is worth reading. ()

Season 1 (2014) (S01)

English I am extremely pleased with the first season of Bosch. I must highlight the incredible atmosphere that you can feel despite this being an almost feel-good series thanks to the title character. Overall, the creators have managed to put together an interesting mixture of comfort, suspense and a certain gloominess, while also nailing the casting of the individual characters. I couldn't be happier. ()

Chapter One: 'Tis the Season (2014) (S01E01)

English After watching the first episode, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. The story is still forming, but it captured my attention right from the beginning, which doesn't always happen. I am curious to see how both storylines (investigation and trial) will develop, and the creators have also introduced a number of promising characters that could further enhance the quality of the series. ()

Chapter Two: Lost Light (2015) (S01E02)

English In the first part of the second episode, I was a bit thrown off by the changes in the cast, I didn't know why they were calling that completely unfamiliar woman Miss Chandler in the courtroom until I realized the true situation. However, these changes did not affect the story and its great atmosphere. The story is suspenseful, you can't get bored with it, and yet it evokes a feeling of absolute comfort in me, thanks to the main character. It's really strange. I often express my opinions about the nonsensical casting of black actors in roles of Norse gods, and so on, but this time I have to appreciate Lance Reddick's casting, his portrayal of Irvin Irving is perfect. ()

Chapter Three: Blue Religion (2015) (S01E03)

English In the third episode, I took away one star in protest because I was upset that the creators used such nonsense in a great story, like when a forensic expert takes a skull photograph in their left hand and a photograph of a person in their right hand and without any measuring or use of devices, declares that it is the same person. That touched me. ()

Chapter Four: Fugazi (2015) (S01E04)

English And I have a little technical objection again. While the story works great for me, there have been additional political dances added to the trial and murder investigation. The creators seem to be making fun of me since the previous episode, this time I felt like I was with con artists. "Battery is, battery isn't, a thousand for the battery!" ()

Chapter Five: Mama's Boy (2015) (S01E05)

English With each subsequent episode, I enjoy Lance Reddick as Irvin Irving more and more. In his case, I would even vote for him not needing to be blue as Fantomas, because he would fit into this role without needing a mask. The story is developing and getting more complex successfully, the atmosphere is still excellent, and I'm having a great time. ()

Chapter Six: Donkey's Years (2015) (S01E06)

English Although a significant part of the episode takes place during a pre-Christmas meeting with his daughter in Las Vegas, I didn't mind at all. The characters in the series are not flat and they have depth thanks to such digressions. I think Bosch had to deal with a dilemma after Waites' phone call, whether this person has phenomenal memory for numbers or is obsessed with personal hygiene. ()

Chapter Seven: Lost Boys (2015) (S01E07)

English I was satisfied with the seventh episode, Hieronymus has to deal with not only the investigation but also a dilemma in his personal life. Moreover, he has to confront his troubled past again, so there is still something to watch, even though the investigation hasn't progressed much. ()

Chapter Eight: High Low (2015) (S01E08)

English Okay, I have definitely made up my mind, I enjoy the series and it would have to be something really strange for the last two episodes to go so wrong that they would spoil the overall impression for me. The eighth episode still maintains the momentum and atmosphere, the investigation often takes a back seat because police chiefs at various levels are busy with political battles and turf wars. ()

Chapter Nine: The Magic Castle (2015) (S01E09)

English The ninth episode brought the end of one of the two concurrent investigations, but what interested me the most was that I was eagerly awaiting not the results of the police work, but rather the development in the relationships of individual characters. I simply enjoy this series. ()

Chapter Ten: Us and Them (2015) (S01E10)

English It is good and the final episode maintained the previous level. Irvin Irving's politics is starting to strongly affect even those who are not involved, but the investigation is proceeding despite everything. Although this episode is sometimes suspenseful and sometimes relaxing, a certain bleak atmosphere culminated with the scene from Arthur's funeral, which the creators managed to maintain since the first episode. ()

Season 2 (2016) (S02)

English Watching Season 2, I wasn’t sure if it would keep up the quality of the previous season, but it did. The creators maintained the great atmosphere and suspense from the first season, grafted it onto a very elaborate story with many converging plotlines, and let Titus Welliver as Hieronymus Bosch go through some personal turmoil while investigating, which is one of the reasons why I enjoyed the series so much. Even though the season doesn't have a frantic pace and often doesn't deal with the investigation at all, and focuses more on the characters' family issues, I wasn't bored for a moment. I can’t wait to see what Season 3 has to offer. ()

Trunk Music (2016) (S02E01)

English The second season opens with Hieronymus returning to service and everything running smoothly, just like in the first series, but at times I felt like I was watching the first series again. The investigation has started again, which is fine, but the Grand Jury hearing, which is happening at the same time, is very similar to the court process in the first season, so I see it as a bet on a proven formula, and that's a shame. ()

The Thing About Secrets (2016) (S02E02)

English Okay, the Grand Jury went to the ice for a while, so what was copying the first row disappeared and satisfaction quickly went up. I was pleased that Bosch's mother's case is back in the game, I was also pleased with the increasingly open fight for power, but the creators gave me the greatest joy with greater involvement of humor, which is so dry it threatens spontaneous combustion. ()

Victim of the Night (2016) (S02E03)

English The third episode wasn't bad, but it was missing that lightness that the other parts had in them. It seemed to me that the script was trying to start too many storylines unnecessarily, and the main one got somewhat sidelined. If the creators continued in this manner, it could happen that they completely overcomplicate the plot and the series would fall into mediocrity. ()

Who's Lucky Now? (2016) (S02E04)

English In the fourth episode, the series got back on track and I hope it stays that way. Hieronymus's work begins to seep into his personal life too much and the political maneuvering among the police elites escalates into an open war. It's quite dramatic. ()

Heart Attack (2016) (S02E06)

English The sixth episode wasn't extraordinary, but I must appreciate the connection of all storylines, and at the same time, I must apologize to the creators for one of my previous comments where I criticized them for having too many ongoing actions. I was wrong, everything fits together like an overpriced construction set from an unnamed company, and I'm very satisfied. ()

Exit Time (2016) (S02E07)

English This time, I was basically satisfied, the story is developing in a very good way, the only thing that really bothered me was the amount of pathos that poured out of the screen at the beginning. I understand sadness, but why do the creators have to go to such extremes, it is a mystery to me. ()

Follow the Money (2016) (S02E08)

English Well, it was good. All storylines merged into one main one and it's worth it. Considering it's an American series, there isn't that much wild action in it, so the scene in front of the bank hits the viewer like a well-known Cimrmanovský shrapnel. It can be expected that the plot will nicely escalate in the remaining two episodes. I'm looking forward to it! ()
