Bouton

Johana and Bouton attempt to prevail over a dangerous disease and manage its severity with humour. When Johana plays with Bouton, she disguises her voice by compressing her throat and it is exactly there where she manifested her tumour buttons, after they were chased away from her breasts with chemicals. Bouton is the name of Johana's favourite puppet, her alter ego. She created him herself, shares an intimate connection and takes responsibility for him. She cherishes him more than herself. Bouton in turn gives Johana a great deal because he listens to her, surprises her with his replies and impressions, asks blunt questions, and knows that without her, he can't exist. Bouton is also what we call the lump caused by cancer which threatens life. This is even more acute for Bouton as Johana breathes the very life into his being. 'Bouton' also means 'bud'; a plant part full with expectation that awakens hope and is a metaphor for biological purity. (official distributor synopsis)
