Cairo has approx. 20 million inhabitants and is one of the most heavily populated cities in the world. On the surface, you experience Cairo - popularly known as the mother of all cities - as an inferno of human existence. The beauty of the metropolis on the Nile and the extraordinary charm of its inhabitants only reveal themselves after the visitor has abandoned all prejudices and is ready to allow all the images, sounds and happenings to penetrate his soul. Over 7 programmes, the series looks at life in Cairo. It begins with some insights into the cradle of Egyptian culture and ends with a festival in the City of the Dead. The film itself is made up of scenes that reflect the feeling of life in an oriental mega city. The individual programmes are parables of the themes of birth, life, work, religion, fate, longing and death. (Fortuna-Media) (official distributor synopsis)
