Amsterdam 1945 and Otto Frank is back from Auschwitz. He managed to survive the Holocaust, but his beloved wife Edith and daughters Margot and Anne didn't. Otto Frank's secretary had kept his daughter's diary, notebooks and a rich collection of loose leaves where Anne describes the hard times that made life almost impossible for Jews in Amsterdam and elsewhere. Through her written accounts, Otto learns how Anne really saw their everyday life in the secret annex, how lonely she often felt, and her constant fear of being detected. Through transcribing the diary, Otto realises just how little he knew about his daughter Anne. Dramatisations, documentary and archive material, and new and surprising interviews with her companions allow the audience into Anne's world and her story. Embedded into the words of Anne's diary, we evocate her fears, dreams, love and longings, her vision of a possible future, and the reality of a sudden end. (Viasat)
