Mammon

The HBO series Mamon is a crime thriller set in current-day Czech Republic but its roots date back to the 1990s. The main character (Matěj Hádek) is a journalist, who is working on an important case regarding a significant state company. This six episode series, which is the continuing work in Czech original production of HBO Europe, is under direction of Vladimír Michálek. The story is a model description of the real 1990's practices: privatization of state companies, embezzlement of companies or corruption at the public prosecutor's office. The main character (Matěj Hádek) is a journalist, who is working on an important case regarding a significant state company. During a background check for the report he stumbles upon controversial information regarding his brother, who happens to be involved in this scandal. The series follows several storytelling lines. The main one is the work of an investigative journalist and his relationship with his own family. The next lead of the storytelling structure is the above mentioned line regarding the state company investigation, police work and the public prosecutor's office's system. There is another connection between the main character and the investigation, a religious motive which is a part of the entire story. (HBO Europe)
