Exotic animals, giant trailers, disciplined training. These are the makings of a circus star's life. And when the star's name is Merrylu Casselly, it is often mentioned with Patrick Berdino, a childhood friend and the son of a famous circus family. Together with him, Merrylu is to continue a centuries-long tradition as the heads of a considerable circus dynasty. However, the emotions of the twenty-something woman, who lives and breathes circus, aren't complying with everyone else's grand plans for her. This film by Anders Riis-Hansen is a captivating portrayal of life away from mainstream society, where a young woman is coming to grips with her independence. In the reality of Sirkus Arena, common decisions affect everyone and moments of social interaction outside the community are few and far between. The sense of community is idyllic, but when the boundaries between the individual and the community start dissolving, even the viewer might feel anguished. The visually breathtaking circus acts and the serene life of the senior Cassellys create a beautiful contrast to the young circus diva's complicated love life.
