The Thompsons, a loving family living in a peaceful suburb are the very definition of wholesome normalcy. But on the eve of their thirteenth wedding anniversary their usual babysitter has to cancel, leaving Dan and Joyce to call upon a new girl who seems like a dream come true to their three children: Christopher, Sally and Jacob. As the night creeps on, the kids slowly realize something is very wrong and this woman is not who she claims to be. Jacob, the eldest, must grow up quickly if he wants to save his siblings from the sinister intentions of Emelie, the disturbed woman masquerading as their babysitter. (Dark Sky Films)

An interesting premise, but the pervasive PG13 feel makes Emelie a very light horror spectacle. It's a shame that they didn’t push the envelope at all, there’s not twist and the finale is not intense enough. The performances by the kids and the deranged babysitter pull it up to better than average. ()
Exactly the kind of film that will leave you with a lot of uncomfortable feelings, and those feelings will linger after watching it. When they hire a girl to babysit their kids, they have no idea what she'll actually cause. When I see this, I really reconsider whether I should ever leave my kids with someone I don't know, even if they come recommended. I still have to shake it off, even though the ending was too traditional. ()
