Time is relative – particularly when it comes to traumatic events. Chile has taken a 100-year leap into the future, trying to forget the coup of Augusto Pinochet's military junta. For director Patricio Guzmán, only a month has passed from the coup, and he's ordained to revive the remembrance of an egalitarian Chile for the rest of his life.During Pinochet's rule, tens of thousands of dissidents went missing or were tortured and killed. To this day, people are still searching the desert for the remains of their loved ones. Guzmán joins them for an archaeological dig to find painful memories amidst the sands of oblivion. Boris Nicot's intimate documentary allows us to see Guzmán finishing his latest film and recalling his old works. Not only a portrait and a film about making films, FILMING OBSTINATELY is an appeal for the reversal of time and a delicate study on the structure of memories. Text: Sanni Myllyaho / Translation: Tapio Reinekoski (DocPoint)
