Fonko means "the thing" in Mandinka and "take care of each other" in Wolof. The film is like a cheeky and slipshod smaller sibling to Göran Hug Olsson's Concerning Violence (GFF 2014), where revolution uses music as a weapon. Here we meet the smartest and funniest artists, bloggers and producers in their homes. In shanty towns, luxury villas and on stage. They all have their interpretation of Frantz Fanon and the importance of liberation from the colonial mentality that shapes all people in and outside Africa. With their experiences of oppression and diaspora, they make a mix of insolence towards death using new technology and traditional influences, and channel their anger into a fused energy. Take care of each other! (Göteborg Film Festival)
