Gun violence in America has sadly become a common occurrence. According to the Center for American Progress, an average of 33,000 people are killed by guns each year. It's gotten so bad even kids aren't spared; the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre had President Obama in tears on national television. After all these tragic events, you would think our government would have been fast at work on a solution. Unfortunately, many elected officials choose inaction for fear of alienating second amendment advocates and the National Rifle Association. If you turn on cable news, you'll hear a heated debate about the subject, full of fear tactics and name calling. But as 91% demonstrates, most Americans are united behind common sense gun reform. This film interviews those who've been personally affected by violence, as well as lawmakers, researchers, and even gun enthusiasts who are passionate about keeping guns out of the wrong hands. Director John Richie finds that when you cut out all the noise, the issue of gun control is a lot less partisan than you think. (Cleveland International Film Festival)
