A sequence of three short animated films The World of Microfluidics aims to explain in a simplified way, how experiments with microfluidics can contribute to science today. This field is concerned with the behaviour of fluids in small circuits. Scientists can thus conduct small scale experiments obtaining results which are more precise and much faster than ever before. Such trials are also cheaper and safer. The research conducted with microfluidics promises the discoveries of new medicaments and medical instruments and can also provide various answers to difficult environmental questions and furthermore partly replace animal testing. The authors of the sequence aim to explain the benefits of this new invention even to an audience with a limited amount of knowledge in the fields of chemistry and biology by using, for example, the metaphor of a football match. The production of the short films was initiated by the EUROMBR and BioIntense projects, which are concerned with scientific research at selected European universities. (Academia Film Olomouc)
