The field of laboratory research of optics and nanotechnology does not provide any dramatic hunt for new scientific discoveries or exciting and heated discussions concerning the topic of the newest technologies of optical fibres or reasons for butterflies colouring in nature with the help of indented wing structures. Nevertheless, for many scientists it is a topic that can bewitch a person for the rest of their lives. This is exactly what happened to scientists from the University of Zilina Dusan Pudis, Ivan Martinecek and Peter Gas who discovered the way of optical fibre waveguides preparation from polydimethyl syloxane. Rather than the discovery itself, the documentary So I Tried narrates about a team of enthusiastic scientists who on the one hand spend their time with microscopes in laboratories and who examine promising students in classrooms, and on the other hand, do not hesitate to immerse in walks along the meadows and forests of Zilina for some inspiration and talk about the possibilities of nanotechnologies in optics till the late afternoon. Science is not merely a job for them but a genuine pleasure. (Academia Film Olomouc)
