Spy thriller in which British agent Joseph Reardon (Paul Newman) who is tasked by the mysterious espionage mastermind Mackintosh to impersonate an Australian agent and deliberately take the fall for a diamond robbery, landing him in prison so that he can form an alliance with a notorious criminal.
