In this dark comedy from director Carly Usdin, Jasmine (Brittani Nichols, TRANSPARENT) and Penn (Lindsay Hicks) are a new lesbian couple with an uncertain future after only one month together. They've accepted a luncheon invitation from Jordan and Billie, a married couple of five years who are seemingly living the lesbian dream. Jasmine and Penn are silently jealous when they take in their hosts' beautiful home, their loving partnership, even their adorable pit bull puppy. As Jordan and Billie tend to the grill, Jasmine and Penn determine to renew their bond and sneak off for a quickie in their hosts' bedroom. The discovery of what appears to be an anonymous suicide note changes the perspective of the women entirely – perhaps all is not quite what it seems between the oh-so perfect Jordan and Billie. Over lunch talk covering topics from frequency of masturbation to home décor ideas, Jasmine and Billie determine to find out who penned the note – without directly confronting and offending their hosts. A delightful, laid-back, modern day drawing room comedy of manners with an improvisatory feel, SUICIDE KALE is a delight. (Chicago Reeling Film Fest)
