English The combination of Ivory and Forster seems to be very popular. This is a mature, interesting and even engaging work. The debuting Bonham Carter gives a hint of all her future qualities, and the cohort of co-stars are firmly established in the cramped confines of their roles - there's an old-fashioned Maggie, an emancipated Judi, and a traditionally Stanislavsky-armed Daniel Day-Lewis. If you enjoy heritage films, you will be very satisfied. ()

English As a romance it's not that surprising, but as a historical film it's very good and very entertaining. You will also like how relationships can be asexual and how even a kiss can mean a lot. And one passionate kiss can mean everything. The acting is excellent, that's what this movie is primarily about, because otherwise, it would just be another romantic drama, albeit, true, an entertaining one. ()
