A group of man walks into the depths of a jungle in Entre Rios looking to find their Holy Grail: the fossils of a saber-toothed tiger. Like children playing and pretending to be paleontologists in a lush abandoned lot, five local people from Crespo fantasize about discovering a treasure that will provide a prosperous future. But the hunt for this ghostly feline goes on more than expected and they have to find a formula to surf through time. Cathartic chanting, ungainly dips in the water, and rural graffiti art, all help fight the discouragement away. Trying not to distort reality, this documentary by Maximiliano Schonfeld reflects the intense coexistence of these explorer friends by filming them day and night in their modest victories and small failures. Sleeping Tiger doesn't try to impose a plot to life nor it tries to transform the people in it into characters. It simply captures the nods between these amateur scientists who embodied this delirious mission. (Mar del Plata International Film Festival)
