A socially provocative drama based on the screenplay by German psychiatrist Heinar Kipphardt: a case of a non-conformist poet and schizophrenic, with a clinic as the metaphor of oppressed society, and the history of mental illness as the metaphor of modern German history. The subject offers itself as an interesting comparison with Forman's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). (Summer Film School)
