Grid Corrections

Superimposing a rectangular grid, built from exact square miles, on the surface of the earth means that spherical deviations have to be fixed. After all, the grid has only two dimensions. The roads that follow the boundaries within the Thomas Jefferson grid must dogleg every twenty-four miles to compensate for the diminishing distances. (International Film Festival Rotterdam)
