John G. Avildsen: King of the Underdogs

John G. Avildsen's career spans decades and includes a resume most filmmakers could only dream about. Not only did he win the Best Director Oscar for ROCKY (1976), he also directed seven actors to Oscar nominations: Jack Lemmon, Jack Gilford, Burgess Meredith, Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire, Pat Morita and Burt Young. Lemmon won the Best Actor Oscar for SAVE THE TIGER (1973). Even after so many achievements, including directing the amazingly successful THE KARATE KID trilogy, many filmgoers don't even know his name. This documentary sets out to change that.
