The documentary Ten Years of Love looks at the issue of young families in Europe today, focusing on five couples who, more than ten years ago, became parents. Via time-lapse footage, it follows their lives over a ten-year period (2006–2016) at fiveyear intervals. Prevalent topics such as changing lifestyles or socio-economic situations gradually fade into the background as the protagonists' reflections turn towards childrearing, relationships and crises, ending in breakup or even death. The film focuses on depicting the unique world of each couple, their own responses to change, and the development of their perceptions of themselves, their families and their circumstances. The intimate testimonies of the film's subjects, telling their individual life stories and coping with their own individual problems, paint a picture of the singular human experience that stems from a person's fundamental role: to become a parent, no matter the obstacles or political circumstances.
