Jiří Krejčík’s biopic inspired by the fates of opera singer Ema Destinnová was based on Zdeněk Mahler’s screenplay. Not only the audiences, but also the communist censors, understood that this story of an independent woman under constant police surveillance refers to the Normalisation Czechoslovakia, which is why the film was screened mainly at cinemas of peripheral importance.
