English Beautiful. Mořská panna (The Mermaid) is an excellent social conversation film based entirely on the glitter of Jiřina Štěpničková. The theme is the same as many global films, such as Lady of the Tropics with Hedy Lamarr or Love Affair with Irene Dunne. This modern retelling of Štolba's Art Nouveau joke is a return to a popular story that had already caught the attention of director Medeotti-Bohác in 1926. From this first adaptation, only Růžena Šlemrová was transferred to the new one. There is indeed something pleasant about watching the endearing love games between Štěpničková and Veverka, and later the refined bar ladies Pleyová and Prchlíková, who first showed off their great dresses and later their social graces. Unfortunately, the film was broadcast from a really crappy version and that takes away from its chances of finding an audience. ()
