A Leap of Life

Once the waterfall El Salto de Juanacatlán was called “the Mexican Niagara.” The arrival of industry and its disposal of toxic pollutants destroyed the tributary of the Río Santiago, polluting the entire river. For the past 30 years, a family— Graciela, Enrique and their daughter Sofía—has fought against the indifference of authorities and the impunity of companies to rescue what once was a river full of life.
