Adapted from Deborah Harkness' best-selling trilogy of novels, A Discovery of Witches is a bold and romantic thriller that uncovers a secret underworld of extraordinary beings hiding in plain sight for fear of persecution by humans – they are vampires, witches and daemons. Brilliant historian Diana Bishop is a witch denying her own heritage. But when she unexpectedly calls up an ancient, bewitched manuscript from Oxford's Bodleian library, one that was thought by the creatures to be lost and could answer the mysteries of their existence, she finds herself thrown into the heart of a dangerous mystery – and into the path of the enigmatic geneticist and vampire Matthew Clairmont. Matthew is driven to solve the looming threat of the creatures' decline and extinction, but their unlikely alliance to find the book before it falls into the wrong hands – and their deepening relationship – threatens to violate age-old taboos and shake the fragile peace that exists between the species. A Discovery of Witches (2018)

English At first, I was hoping for a decent fantasy series (perhaps even with horror elements), but it soon became clear that the creators had decided to nip my hopes in the bud. The romantic storyline quickly took over and the series became a cross between The Vampire Diaries and The Twilight Saga, so I'm proud of myself for making it to the end of the first season. 3*- ()

Episode 1 (2018) (S01E01)

English In the first episode, I gave it a cautious three, the topic of "gifted" (or cursed) beings among humans could be not bad at all, but I'm not sure if it won't turn into some strange romance. There were too many unnecessarily long eye contacts and it made me nervous. Just not another Twilight saga, please, please, no... ()

Episode 2 (2018) (S01E02)

English Still only three stars, but my concerns are growing. I have a bad feeling that the inevitable romantic plot is slowly burying all the mystery and fun. The big plus is that the main roles are not taken by some cocky youngsters, so I quite like watching Dr. Bishop and Professor Clairmont doesn't annoy me either, at least for now. ()

Episode 3 (2018) (S01E03)

English So, the positives of the third episode included the fact that I kept looking at the doctor girl and that something was actually happening and the story was moving forward. Among the negatives, I include the romantic plotline, I wouldn't have anything against it if it didn't take up so much time. I also didn't like that I've already seen several demons and it's still not clear to me why they're called demons when they don't manifest in any way. Couldn't they just be called humans? ()

Episode 4 (2018) (S01E04)

English This time, I was satisfied with the events in the episode for the first time and I was ready to add a fourth star to the rating, but the creators couldn't resist and resorted to rectal mountaineering, introducing gender and racial issues among vampires, demons, and wizards/witches in accordance with current trends. That would make one vomit. ()

Episode 5 (2018) (S01E05)

English Well, it's here already. Dr. Bishop is lucky that her heart rate doesn't accelerate during sexual games, otherwise the professor would definitely not be able to control himself and the series would have to end prematurely. It's sad that the series had decent potential, and now it will surely become just another easily forgettable matter. And that terrible music during the love scenes... Why? ()

Episode 6 (2018) (S01E06)

English From the terrifying Satu emerged a rather inept torturer. I may not be a wizard, but I know several very effective ways to hurt someone, and apart from the burning of the backside, it was quite a piece of cake. The whole episode was pretty insignificant, and I actually only liked the part with Meridian. ()

Episode 7 (2018) (S01E07)

English The episode that shed light on what happened in the past wasn't as bad as the previous one, I just feel like the creators manage to come up with very similar, if not the same, conclusions of the episodes. I also dislike how the screenwriter creates logical gaps that he himself created. The vampire is bothered by turbulent blood at one moment, only to be completely fine immediately after, and it was also revealed that despite his great instincts, he doesn't uncover another undead. They should sort that out. ()

Episode 8 (2018) (S01E08)

English The final episode of the first season convinced me that I should rather skip all the following series. Instead of mysteries and secrets, the plot focused again on the relationship of the two main characters, and the opening passage really annoyed me, and even the open ending as an invitation to the next season did not appeal to me.
