English Kafir: A Deal with the Devil is one of the best-rated horror films from Asia in recent years, so I had high expectations. In the end, however, I was a bit disappointed. The film does bring something new to the genre and in terms of the story, it is quite original. What initially seems like a supernatural story takes a quite unexpected direction, which I definitely appreciate. But it is a bit disappointing that there aren't many scares, the ghosts don't really cause much trouble, and there isn't much gore either. The film focuses more on the story, but it must be acknowledged that the five twists that the director throws at the end were unexpected, and the torture finale with the voodoo doll also had something to it. It is decently shot, the atmosphere is quite decent, and the acting is not bad either, but it didn't derail me as much as I expected.
