Husband and wife Javier and Amanda (Elena Anaya of Pedro Almodóvar's "The Skin I Live In" and "Talk to Her") share a memory that's almost unthinkable: their four-year-old son, Pedro, drowned in the pool in their backyard in Santiago, Chile. Though both are equally devastated, they have different ideas about how to cope with the loss. While Javier wants to overcome the pain together, Amanda can't stand to look at her husband, as he reminds her too much of Pedro. After Amanda moves out of their house, she tries to build a new life for herself and starts dating her former lover, Marcos. Meanwhile, despite having the emotional support of his friends and father, Javier's personal life devolves, and he only longs to get Amanda back. With powerful performances and an affecting soundtrack, Matías Bize's THE MEMORY OF WATER is a moving portrayal of how one lives and loves in the aftermath of tragedy.
