The Superpowers of the Bear

In the snow-covered Swedish taiga in the Tackåsen area, a group of scientists and physicians track brown bears using 3D scanners and ultrasound. The team’s task is unbelievable: to gently take samples of bears’ blood and tissue and carry out a wide range of medical tests while the bears hibernate beneath the snow. What is their goal? To understand the exceptional physiology of these furry creatures that are able to keep their body temperature at a relatively high level and save a lot of energy during the long months of inactivity. They may even find a key to treating human health issues such as osteoporosis, muscular atrophy, obesity, as well as heart and kidney dysfunctions. (Academia Film Olomouc)
