Love at Second Sight

It was love at first sight, He and She met, dated, married and experienced successes and failures together. But nothing lasts forever. After ten years, their relationship is at a low point and slowly but surely coming to an inevitable end. Or is it?! He gets a second chance to win back the love of his life, even if he doesn't have the best initial conditions to do so. What struck me about this film was the premise and the execution, which mostly stayed away from clichés. I found both main characters, played by François Civil and Joséphine Japy, likeable, and the friend played by Benjamin Lavernhe provided a proper dose of entertainment. Coupled with a likeable musical score, nice locations from the coast and a few captivating moments, the result is a solidly made film that mixes romance, humor and drama in an effective way. If I were strictly into romance, I would probably give four stars. I also expected humor, though, and the kind that the film offered was too French for me. The premise wasn’t bad, it's just a shame that the creators didn't make more effort to get more out of it. They had enough time for that in my opinion. (10/21/2019)
