After leaving home 10 years ago, Detective Lauri Raiha is sent to investigate the murders of two men in the small northern Finnish town where he grew up. The investigation offers a way to escape couples’ therapy and his failing relationship with his husband. But going home forces him to face his family and the deeply religious Laestadian community that rejected him many years previously. Together with his partner, Sanna Tervo, a carefree soul on the surface, but also someone who has their own difficult past, Lauri seeks answers to the case only to discover other truths about himself, his home town, and whether one has the power to forgive all sins. All the Sins (2019)

English What a disappointment. And I had such high hopes for the Finnish filmmakers, especially since they cast their elite hurler in the lead role. The script offered a main plot on which a decent story could have been built. Instead, various subplots started taking over, the investigation was slow, the story was getting more and more boring, and I was just looking forward to it being over. The only positive thing left is a confirmation of what I have been thinking for a long time, namely that every religion got stuck somewhere in the Middle Ages. ()

Juuret (2019) (S01E01)

English After watching the first episode, I'm giving it a cautious three stars. While I'm usually drawn to Nordic crime series for their intense storytelling, this one felt a bit different. They took my favorite Finnish pole actor and turned him into a gay character, so his female colleague had to take on the role of a stud. I was hoping for a bit more investigative action to really hook me in, though. ()

Onnettomuuden tuoja (2019) (S01E02)

English This episode didn't quite measure up to the previous one. The plot seemed to hit a plateau, with the investigation going in circles, leaving me feeling bored. It's almost as if the screenwriter initially planned for a three-part miniseries, but then had to stretch it out to six episodes, resulting in some filler material to meet the extended runtime. ()

Pienen paikalla (2019) (S01E03)

English Slightly better than the last episode, but it still fell short for me. The creators attempted to delve into the personal lives of the investigators in a somewhat clumsy manner, losing sight of the main investigative plot. The side storylines failed to capture my interest, and the main plotline continues to stagnate. 2*+ ()

Jäähyväiset (2019) (S01E04)

English At first, I perked up, thinking something significant was unfolding, only to realize it was just a clever ploy by the creators. They diverted my attention with minor side plots, only to abruptly hit me with testosterone-fueled scenes. Why? ()

Intuitio (2019) (S01E05)

English Thanks to the interrogations and a funny conclusion, this episode belongs to the better ones, but even so, I'm not exactly jumping with joy. The whole thing reminds me a bit of Zasada przyjemności, where the plot was artificially stretched for so long that by the end, I didn't care at all who the killer was. I'm starting to feel the same way about this show. ()

Väärät tuomarit (2019) (S01E06)

English I anticipated the creators to make up for the boredom, especially in the finale. However, I was swiftly and harshly reminded of reality. Nevertheless, those who relish poignant moments certainly found what they were looking for. ()
