Sekte

A fairly serviceable ritual horror film from Indonesia that has its bright moments, but doesn't deserve more than average. Cult has a pretty interesting story about a young woman who wakes up after an accident with memory loss. She is in an isolated house surrounded by a community of people who appear friendly, but she soon discovers that they worship a demon mother who demands sacrifices. The demon mother looks like something out of The Mummy and is probably one of the best things that Cult has to offer. The make-up effects are good and the final twist was quite a surprise, but unfortunately I was disappointed that the murders are out of frame and that there is not a lot of blood, and when the horror is neither brutal nor scary, the result is what ? Yes average. Decently made, and ritualistic sects are a popular theme, but Indonesia has made better stuff.
