Michael Hutchence was one of rock's most dynamic and charismatic frontmen who captivated the world as the lead singer of INXS. But underneath it all he was a poetic, multifaceted and intensely sensitive man who struggled with the idea of success and the creative limits of pop. Crafted from an extraordinary archive of rich imagery and never-before-seen footage, this fascinating documentary from director Richard Lowenstein offers a powerfully intimate and insightful portrait of the legendary singer's all-too-brief life and the undying legacy that emerged. A powerfully intimate and electric journey into the frontman of what was once the biggest band in the world, Mystify Michael Hutchence reveals a singular talent's dance with both the bright light and deep darkness within. English Would you like a film to be made about you? Kill yourself! Another entry to an already too long series of documentaries about deceased celebrities who had everything and nothing at the same time. Some of the key events seemed only very lightly addressed and thus weren’t entirely clear for someone who’s never heard the name of Michael Hutchence. And with regards to Michael’s “complicated inner world”, as touted by the blurb, well, I didn’t learn much about that, either. #KVIFF2019 ()

English I was looking forward to this documentary. After AC/DC, INXS is definitely the best Australian band and Michael Hutchence is a truly interesting figure and a great singer. There was a lot I didn’t know and learned from this film. All in all, a decent documentary. A star of Micheal’s size definitely deserved this. The best shots for me are those from Prague before 1989. You won’t see an empty Charles Bridge every day. ()
