Hawkeye (2021)

English Christmas popcorn from Marvel with two diametrically opposed halves. While the first 2 or 3 episodes are almost pure candy for small, young and simple viewers, where the cute little dog has to have only one eye and the black policewoman has to be a lesbian and say it out loud with nonchalant elegance in order to make everything as politically friendly and correct as possible, from the middle onwards the pace picks up and the story builds up solidly. Hawkeye ultimately deepens the Marvel universe pretty cleverly, revealing cards that we haven't quite got to see in the big movies or the series spin-offs. And with the arrival of Florence Pugh, everything jumps up another level. Four stars, but just barely. ()

Never Meet Your Heroes (2021) (E01)

English An impressive insertion into the Avengers universe. A likeable opening, acceptable introductions to the main characters and an unobtrusive mix of humour and comic book-style suspense and action. So far it looks like a Christmas popcorn order exclusively for die-hard fans, but let's not jump into conclusions. ()

Hide and Seek (2021) (E02)

English Comic book action comedy. Excellent lead actors and their interactions with a few funny moments – that's the reason to watch Hawkeye and what to expect from it in the first part. We get to see the main villain, the supporting ones are just there for fun, to make something happen and ideally make it seem funny rather than serious. So far, the series is more in the Christmas-comedy spirit. ()

Echoes (2021) (E03)

English The best episode so far. A likeable villain, a very imaginative action scene with some great camera work, and the chemistry between Hawkeye and the girl is still very good. If it makes it to the finale at this pace and style, there's no problem, and I'm willing to forgive the first two saccharine episodes. ()

Partners, Am I Right? (2021) (E04)

English A very short, fast and dynamic episode. A decent balance between a family Christmas comedy and a progressively darker comic book actioner that, while not particularly well edited and not up to par with the A-list films, is still a pretty decent piece of craftsmanship. There's an added bonus at the end when a very, very interesting character appears out of nowhere. ()

Ronin (2021) (E05)

English When Florence Pugh appears on the scene with her irresistible eyes and ultra sexy Russian accent, things start to happen. She basically steals the entire episode, but that's okay because the pace of this miniseries picks up nicely thanks to her entrance and her character's motivations. The final episode could be wild. So This Is Christmas? (2021) (E06)

English A bit clunky, overwrought and long finale. The multiple parallel fights between the main characters are a slap in the face from the screenwriter. The main villain is OK, the plot twists are also bearable, but the previous episode was far more coherent and narratively tighter than the wannabe grand finale with the falling tree. ()
