While on vacation in Paris, Ollie falls head over heels for a waitress who is unyielding to his amorous advances. As a result of Ollie's rejection, the comedic duo joins the French Foreign Legion, which embarks them upon a hysterical rollercoaster ride of chaotic circumstances chock full of the pair's famous slapstick comedy and unassuming wryness. Interlaced in this uproarious comedy are memorable scenes of emotional subtlety that are touching, yet appropriately understated. This, combined with the usual side-splitting comedic antics of the duo, form a masterpiece that is a shining example of American pop culture. (Echo Bridge Entertainment)

English I liked this film as a child, as it was one of the genres I grew up with, but when I returned to film years later, I realized that I had moved on and that this style of humor didn't appeal to me that much anymore. However, for fans of classic comedy, it is undoubtedly a great choice. Overall impression: 55%. ()

English The scene with the attempted suicide (and collegiate suicide) and the escaped shark is one of the ones I've associated with Laurel and Hardy for a long time and probably forever, but I feel like I just saw the whole movie for the first time today. It's a great comedy. It's got everything you expect, and a little bit of what you might not expect. I think Laurel and Hardy could have ruined even Švejk. ()
