Party Hard

Unfortunately seen after the sequel, which is not only harder in line with its title, but also far more sophisticated and more daring in every aspect. Compared to it, the first Party Harder looks like a proof of concept video with which an aspiring filmmaker secured the resources for a professional production. Which is an exact representation of reality. Party Hard deservedly became an underground phenomenon, but Pohl showed what he was really capable of when we was later given the necessary resources. What’s actually surprising about the first film is that the  gags for adults work best, while the main adolescent storyline stumbles and only tries in vain to keep up. Pohl actually inverts the wisdom of Cosy Dens here to “Fucking is for old people. Kids will drink”, while also dispelling the inaccurate American Pie myth that the wildest acts of depravity are perpetrated by horny teenagers. (07/09/2022)

It's on the level of the "Mártyho frky" comic strip by Martin Pohl – sometimes it's funny because it's just brilliantly written, paced, and acted (anything with Grundza, for example); sometimes it's funny mainly because it's so horribly stupid; sometimes it’s just stupid and cheesy. The biggest gross-out scene came a while after it started, then it was easy to endure after that, and I actually had quite a bit of fun wondering what was going to happen next given that it was absolutely impossible to predict. However, if I were in Reznik’s target audience, I probably would have been much more impressed and would soon want to watch Párty Hárd again and again and again. (03/21/2020)

I can understand any rating for Party Hard, because it is a truly unconventional film that is sure to captivate some viewers and disgust others. In my case, I will be somewhat stingy with my assessment. Although it is a rather unique piece in the field of Czech comedy, unfortunately (or is it rather fortunately?) it didn't really hit me with its humour. The scenes with Marek Milko amused me quite a bit, otherwise it was too bizarre with sometimes rather tasteless fecal humour. The film didn't benefit from its amateurish execution, whether it was the (non)actors or the camera. But, as I said. some people will like the explicit explosions of Jebi's craters, the brown-skinned revenge, or the union of Czech perverts ... and others may not. (03/20/2023)

If Martin Pohl wanted to shock me, he went about it all wrong. A pile of shit, some obscene language and a few ounces of pus will hardly shock me. I generally avoid excrements (mainly because of the smell), but they don’t shock me, neither does the language in the film, given how I talk without self-censorship (which I turn on in my reviews on FilmBooster). The sight of pus does absolutely nothing to me thanks to my golden staphylococcus. The bigger problem was that I didn't like the jokes (except for the scene with the slippers), and I was bored out of my mind the whole time. I know it shouldn't surprise me anymore, but I fell for it again and was surprised to see that a film can be made without anyone actually doing some acting. (05/13/2020)
