The Immortal is a cinematic spin-off from Gomorrah, the Italian hit crime series. Having been shot in the chest by his only real friend Genny, Ciro sinks down into the dark waters of the Gulf of Naples. As he drifts towards the depths, memories float upwards. Faint sounds find their way through the cold embrace of the water – muffled screams of panic! It's 1980. A devastating earthquake sends buildings crashing down. Yet from underneath the rubble, the cry of a newborn baby emerges. It is none other than Ciro di Marzio. From that day on, he will be known as "The Immortal". Years later, Ciro survives even that fateful gunshot. What they say is true: no one and nothing can kill the Immortal. From his past as an orphan to his present-day Baltic exile, from his first petty thefts to all-out gang warfare: Ciro confronts head-on whatever comes his way, in a world in which immortality is just another form of damnation. English The film benefits from the popularity of the series and the charisma of the main character, but in terms of the screenplay, it's somewhere around the level of the 5th season, which is not praise but simply an observation that the fatigue of the screenwriting team set in earlier. We can observe sentimental elements to a greater extent in the form of flashbacks from Ciro's childhood and his "paternal" relationship with the Italian community of his friends, as well as longing for Ciro's lost family. The logic of the characters' thinking and behavior is also not a priority for the screenwriters, which is most evident in the scenes of the final settling of scores. Ciro has a remarkable ability as a mafia man to utter heartfelt wisdom in inappropriate situations and to throw noble thoughts into the mix, but it comes off as inauthentic and disruptive. Additionally, viewers unfamiliar with the Gomorrah series won't be fully oriented in the characters and their relationships. Considering the nostalgia for the series, I award it 3 stars and a 65% overall impression. ()

English A warm-up act for Suburra. The charisma of the protagonist is undeniable and the work with the narrative of the plot is impressive and holds the attention. It's just a pity about the overly cowboy finale, which knocks down the otherwise quite successful mafia atmosphere and the raw setting of cold Latvia. And unlike Suburra, where all the characters are interesting, here it’s only the main one. ()

English Of course, I had secretly been wishing for Ciro's resurrection. So I couldn't miss this movie. At the beginning I was a little worried that it might be a disaster, but fortunately my fears weren’t well founded and I can now write with a smile that The Immortal works very well as a plot staple between the fourth and fifth seasons of Gomorrah: The Series with which it shares a sultry atmosphere and a great soundtrack. The grand finale is a nice, juicy gift for fans of those tough guys from Naples, Italy. (80%) ()
