Like a prelude to Akher Wahed Fina, it all starts with the preparations of a man heading towards a better future. Back home, the world seems tangible: a hammer drives a last nail into a wooden boat, some things are packed together. A group of men crosses green fields until they dive into the unknown. Deliberately erratic camerawork, whip pans, and blurry colours all convey a dramatic change of status. With this change, Slim choses strong contrasts to continue his story. The violent red of the policeman’s baton and the dazzlingly white of a streetlight hurt the viewer’s eyes. Will spring ever arrive after autumn and winter? (Viennale)
