Jim Riley (Tom Neal) is a go get 'em newspaper reporter determined to get the goods on the most scandalous stories. After he writes an article about a gang of racketeers, the police grill him for his sources but to no avail. For refusing to cooperate, Riley is now facing a prison term. His sense of duty wavers a bit when his attentions shift to Betty Van Cleve (Martha Tilton), the pretty sister of one of the criminals; but once the trial starts it seems that Riley may never see Betty again, as head of the jury deliberating on the case happens to be the leader of the racketeer gang in question.
