Zhamankum is one of the first from Kazakhstan to describe ecological problems in this area. The Zhamankum water-basin burst not far from Alma-Ata, the capital of Kazakhstan. This resulted in casualties and environmental pollution which caused major damage to the national economy. The report from the place of the tragedy and the analysis of the event by specialists are the basis for this film. Zhamankum compels us to think about the sensitivity of nature. Those who recklessly exploit nature without caring for the future will inevitably be punished. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
