On December 31st 1999 Vladimir Putin took over power in Russia. Irene Langemann’s documentary portraits a handful of Russian youths from all parts of the country, that were born that very day: from a martial arts fighter fiercly loyal to the state and its leader via an animal-loving pupil to a punk protester. She shows a generation under constant pressure to conform by their teachers, the media and society. Now almost grown-up, they face the choice between resignation, protest or escape.
