It is hard to imagine Miami's rich, cosmopolitan cultural landscape without the contributions of one conductor and musical director: Michael Tilson Thomas, known as MTT to his many colleagues, proteges, and fans. One of the leading visionaries behind the New World Symphony, now one of Miami's cultural Meccas, MTT has helped shape our city. But as this riveting new documentary shows, his work has impacted classical music the world over. In 1970, Michael Tilson Thomas was considered the great young hope of American classical music. Becoming a star overnight, when he stepped in mid-concert to replace the ailing Boston Symphony conductor, the expectations for him were limitless. In 1988 he inaugurated the New World Symphony, an orchestral academy to prepare highly-gifted graduates of prestigious music programs for leadership roles in orchestras and ensembles around the world. The documentary film follows the life of free-spirited Michael Tilson Thomas, as he went his own way and stretched the boundaries of classical music. Featuring an intimate look at MTT working and living behind-the-scenes, interviews with countless musical colleagues, and concert footage from around the world this is the definitive portrait of one of America's greatest conductors.
