The Long Day

Paskevic honours his grandfather in this film who had been a smith. The film shows us a portrait of a profession and its social environment that nowadays hardly exists anymore. Rest, power and faith in God are the main ingredients in the lives of these people. The images are sensuous and strong with big contrasts in dark and light. They give us an almost magic impression of an unknown world. This style is an example of Riga's 'poetic school'. Jevgenijs Paskevics is born in 1948 in Riga and graduated from the State Institute of Cinematography, Film Direction Department (VGIK Moscow) in 1978.
