The story of a village in East-Africa in its relation to the world economic market through twenty years of liberalisation and globalisation. The global textile business is booming and its markets seem to be liberated but the industrialised world had tightened its economical and political pressure: old Africa faces new social and economic conflicts as well as possibilities. For more than one hundred years the people in Muheda lived from cotton. But the changes during the last passed 15 years brought poverty and even hunger into the tiny village in Tanzania. In the centre of this »economic chronicle« performs the highly aged cotton-farmer Mzee Gwao Mbogo whose life author Peter Heller had portrayed already in 1979. By providing a private story in the historical context the film will provoke reflections on the ongoing development and understanding of the problems of global trade. (DOK.fest München)
